how much water hardness can a dishwasher handle?

Make: Kenmore
Model: Ultra Wash

Already Tried:
Rinse aid, vineger and full soap dispensers The water company says the hardness has gone from 10 grains to 25 grains during the summer. So my question is how much water hardness can a dishwasher handle? or at what point should I consider adding a water softener or buying a better washer that adapts to this swing in hardness?

At what hardness will a dishwasher not be able to clean acceptably?

The link you provided does not answer this except to say that my hardness ofXXXXXoff the norm. While you did not answer my question I guess I need to try renting (if available) a water softener exchange unit during the hard water months of the year.

The other is to install a water softener , the dish washer magic is the cheaper of the two.
