It's a chemical smell that is getting worse. The refrigerator is still working

you may have a freon leak in this. how long has this been going on?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
About 4 days..not so bad at first. What can be done if it is a freon leak?
Expert:  Bryan replied 6 years ago.
you will need to call a certified freon tech to get this looked at unfortunately, to be safe. keep an eye one the temps also, if this is a freon leak the temps are going to go up. I would make an appointment as soon as possible, thanks Bryan

The unit is 8 yrs old is it worth repairing?
Expert:  Bryan replied 6 years ago.
well a freon repair can run from $200.00 to $400.00 depending on the issue, before you call a tech out try removing the back panel in the freezer and cleaning the bottom under the coils real good, sometimes the defrost water can smell bad when this defrosts and can stick in the bottom under the coils in the pan, its really hard to say without being there, I wish there was more I could do, thanks Bryan
