I have a Maytag washer model A112. It is about 20 years old

Resolved Question:

I have a Maytag washer model A112. It is about 20 years old and recently has been filling up over the spindle and only a few inches from the brim. It then sloshes over the top during the cycle. Selecting medium load decrease the water level but is still much higher than normal. A local repairman said over the phone that it most likely needed a new switch in the control panel, but that it was no longer available. Any other ideas?
