Replacing oven element on GE range model #JBP76G V1WW and lost

Customer Question

Replacing oven element on GE range model #JBP76G V1WW and lost track of which wires hook up where. There are a black and yellow cabled together, and a separate black. How do they hook up to the element?

You can safely connect either wire terminal to either side of the element. The wires provide power to the element(240 volts). Just be sure to remove the power to the oven, before connecting the wires to the element.

The question was, which wires connect to the element? A black to each terminal on the element, or a black and yellow? Which one is ground?
Expert:  John replied 6 years ago.
There is no ground connection to the heating element. Each wire connection supplies 120 volts to provide 240 volts to the element. The second wire in the terminal with two wires in it provides voltage to the oven pilot light.

I'm confused. Is there a pilot light on an electric range? Specifically I'm asking where do you connect the yellow wire which is coupled with one of the black wires?

Hello and thanks for your question. Both black wires go together on either terminal and the yellow goes to the other terminal. Dave
