i have a pilotless caloric range my top burners work but the oven does not and when i tried to preheat the oven i get a gas smell what is the problem

the problem is the oven igniter itself. Oven igniters need to draw at least 3.2 amps or else it will not open the gas valve all the way. It will either crack the valve open or possibly open and close early. Oven igniters last about 6-8 years under normal use before they need to be replaced.
