If the latch assembly won't move across then you will just need to replace the latch assembly. There is no reason why it shouldn't let you move it into the locked position, only into the the unlocked position if the unit is still hot. If the latch assembly isn't working correctly then just replace it. Here is a link to the part.

Well, the latch assembly does move across completely to the right - it just won't lock when it gets there so are you saying replacement is the only option or perhaps some other problem is keeping it from locking?

no, replacement is the only option, something is going on with one of the latch switches where it's not recognizing that you are sliding it across all the way so it's not locking.
