The pilot lights for 2 of 5 burners on our jenn air stove top

Resolved Question:

The pilot lights for 2 of 5 burners on our jenn air stove top don't work, despite gas as well as a spark. A repair technician looked at it and said that the metal screws to remove the individual burners were welded on to the aluminum burner by the heat, so the pilot light mechanism could not be reached without a major repair effort, ie drilling the screws out and replacing the pilot light mechanism. Essentially he said it would be cheaper to replace the stove top than to do the repair. Our stove top is about 4 years old. Is there any other way to fix the pilot light problem - or does Jenn Air simply make product with a poor design prone to breakage?

He is correct as corrosion is a problem in getting the unit apart. I doubt it would be as much as a new range however if just a few burners need replacing. A grinder burns through those little screws very quickly. You should get another estimate from someone or just leave it be and light the burner manually. There is nothing dangerous as any burner can be left on and the flame can go out whether the sparker works or not, so I don't see that as any issue.
