Does it make the noise when you turn the oven on or just close the door?

no, when I started heating a item the sound went away, after I used the microwave the humming noise disapeared, it seems to be okay now, but what would have caused this to start humming and smelling when n oone was using the microwave? The noise was only made when the dor was closed

Most the time it is a magnetron starting to short out.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
what can I do to test or replace the magnatron?
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 7 years ago.
You cant test a magnetron and it requires a tech to install due to the high voltage stored inside a microwave.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.

what other signs should I see that it might be the magnetron

Expert:  Appliance Man replied 7 years ago.
Loss of heat.
