You can grab the metal flange and bend it down so the door will latch closed.

it doesn't go down any more, it needs to go up a little in order to latch into the hole

bending it? i just got a spatula and did it and it works right now, although i'm a little nervous about it. thanks. about the question where it doesn't clean the top dishes?... i have done vinegar rinses and run it through with no dishes, and the top rack 9 out of 10 has food particles on the bowls and glasses, with food that wasn't on them before.

Ok it sounds like the filter is clogged in the pump. You need to remove the lower spray arm. Then turn the manifold that connects the pump to the upper spray arm to the right. Now remove the 4 screws holding the big filter down. Remove the big filter you will see a domed cover in the front left of the sump. Remove that cover and clean the debris out of it#8 in the picture is the cover.
