My washing machine stopped working the other day after it filled

Customer Question

My washing machine stopped working the other day after it filled with water. I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II (Quiet Wash). I can hear the timer going for a short period of time and there is a buzzing noise coming from where the pump is located. After about 10 seconds the machine is totally dead and I have to turn it off and wait for a few seconds for it to reset. Any ideas. I have already replaced the plastic gear nut that engages the agitator.

You may have something stuck in your drain pump. What is your model number?

I really appreciate your help on this. We've had wet laundry in our washer for five days now.

If you remove the 2 srews on each front edge of the console, lift it up and release the 2 gold clips, you can remove the cabinet. There are 2 clips holding on the drain pump. If you get all the water out with a shop vac, you can remove the pump and clear any obstructions and reassemble.

The obstruction can be causing the knob I pull out to just buzz and not go?
Expert:  Dave replied 7 years ago.
Yes the drain pump is driven off the motor shaft.

We are trying it now. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you in advance.
