I have an Amana Refrigerator model ASD2626HEW. The lights are on in the freezer section but there are no lights on the refrigerator side, including the lights for the numbers that indicate the freeze/cooling level. Both sides appear to be warming up. Is there a reset switch, etc.? What else can I do?
Make: AmanaModel: ASD2626HEW Already Tried: Unplug and replug it in. Check breakers and electrical socket.
Hello.
You will need to unplug the unit for a few minutes and then plug it back in. Look at the back panel of the inside of the freezer and let me know if you see any frost. When you plug the unit back in, see if the light comes back on. Check the door switch and make sure it is not stuck in. Let me know what you find.
Waited approximately 7 minutes and replugged it in. Light did not come on. There is no frost on the back panel. The switch moves freely.
It sounds like you are having a control related failure. The controls for both sides are in the refrigerator and the power to the light in the freezer is on a different circuit. Look at the picture below. Number 26 is the electronic control board. You will need to unplug the unit before you try to get to it. You will need to pull number 25 off carefully because it is held on by clips only. There will be two screws behind this peice that hold the front up and two on the back to hold it up. Take the controls down to where you can see them and inspect the board for any shorts. You will probably be able to see it with a flashlight. The part number is XXXXX and it costs about 100 dollars. Let me know what you find out.
This particular model was held up by three hex head screws but no problem getting it down. Kinda tight getting the boards lose from the clips, but still okay. Inspected both boards and found no obvious shorts. Both boards look new and in pristine condition.:-(. Any other suggestions?
Do you have a voltmeter to test for 120V coming to the board?
You will need to confirm that there is 120V coming to the Red wire and the White wire on the right plug connected to the control board.
No, unfortunately, I do not have a voltmeter. I believe that I have a simple circuit tester, but I'm not sure exactly where it is.
If you can confirm power is coming to the board it will confirm that the board is bad. If there is no power coming then you will have to check the harnesses on the back of the unit down by the compressor. Maybe it is a simple burnt or broken wire. Let me know what you find. I wish I could just hand you my voltmeter to test it with but that is the frustrating part of helping online.
Found my circuit tester. Checked the circuit tester on a socket and it works. Couldn't get the wires to the circuit board to light up. I want to be sure I'm testing the right wires. The main wiring harness has two bundles, one to a left plug and one to a right plug. the left plug has the following configuration; blue--red--brown--red/white stripe--orange--blank--white. The right plug has the following configuration: pink--yellow--purple--blank--blank--blue/white stripe--purple/black stripe--black.The lights to the refrigerator had a separate wire going to them; red/white stripe and white.I noticed when I checked the freezer again, the lights are still working and that there were a couple of water run marks on the back panel like the freezer started to thaw and then the trickle froze again. I'll check the harness.
On the first wiring harness you will need to test the red wire and the white wire for electricity. The red is the L1(power) and the white one is L2(neutral wire). Between those two you shoud get 120V.
Checked the red and white. No light.
Did you check the red/white wire OR did you check the Red and the White wires? If you did check them, did they have power?
I checked the red wire and the white wire. No power.
Here is the wiring diagram. Look in the upper right hand corner. That is the control board and you will see where the red and white wires are to test them.
It would really help you out if you had a voltmeter to test the wires. You will need to trace the wiring back from the control and see where the electricity is lost. Find the L1 and L2 wires on the control board and trace those color wires all the way down to the back of the unit to find where it lost power. That is where you problem will be.
Sorry it took so long to answer but I had to go to the store for ice to keep the food cold. The compressor and fans haven't come on once. I check the back and I could only take off a plate at the bottom. The rest of the back of the frig is sealed. I checked the plug that apparently goes to the upper and front part of the frig and there is power there.
It still sounds like a bad control board to me. I am stating that because there is not really anything else on the schematic that could cause this failure in this fashion. If the electricals on the compressor went out, the lights in the refrigerator would still work. If the door switch was bad, the compressor would still run. There is really no other option.
At this point, I agree. Thank you for the help! Please answer this email and afterwards I will accept your answer and leave some positive feedback. Once again, thank you.
No problem. I am glad we could get it resolved for you. Have a great night!
