Good Morning, We purchased a whirlpool microwave that is put over a stove from our neighbor. She remolded her kitchen last year and it has been sitting in her garage for a year. We live in California on the coast. We have really mild weather. she said it had worked great and had not been dropped. Now, we took it home and it doesn't work. Bummer for all. Can you help us diagnos perhaps it is a simple problem? The fan/light will turn on and off, but the microwave does not, just beep, beep beep when we touch any other button pad. Very sad. I unscrewes the top and opend the pad paned. All wires appear in tact. Sincerely, A sad little home maker who really need a microwave, Kim Casazza
Make: Whirlpool Gold MicrowaveModel: GH8155XJQ-0 Already Tried: I have looked to see if all the connections behand the touch pad were connected. It appeared so. ( I basically unscrewed the long top vent like piece then unscrewed the panel to look behind it.
Hello Kim,What is displayed in the digital display? You said fan would turn on and light, but the microwave does not, do you mean it is not heating up? but carousel is turning?, light is on inside the oven? Can we have the model number please?
Hi Francis,
Good morning!
I am able to put the proper time in on the light display and it stays. The turntable does not turn at all, no microwave motor sound at all.
The model number is XXXXX manufactured in August 2000
Hello,After you set the time, then can you now set for it to cook or heat food ?
No I cannot. For example if I push Jet Start it just beeps when I push it. It will increase in cooking time, like 30 sec, 1 min. But then nothing happens
Kim
Thank you for that Kim, since you have seen the ribbon cable of the touch pad connected intact to the main board, please un plug the unit, be careful working with microwaves because they do store high voltage even unplug for a long time. After you un plug the unit, disconnect the ribbon cable of the touch pad for 2 minutes and re connect it again. Then plug it back and see if the touch pad would now respond to cook.
Okay, I will try this, here it goes!
Let me know what happen.
Well.... I unfipped the little plastic arm and the ribbon cable came out, I waited two minutes and replugged everything. Unfortunately no luck.
Any other suggetions?
Well, I hate to bring you the bad news but if it will not work by unplugging the touchpad, then it is the main board which is faulty then.
