whirlpool duet gew9200lw1 dryer. Will not start. press the diagnostics (more/less dry combo). all lights light up and get a 3E error (not a blinking E3)

Can you remove the top , and do you have a volt -ohm meter?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
sorry no volt meter, plus dryer stacked on top of washer
ok when you program dryer does the time count down , but no operation ?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
i hold the button down, but it just beeps with the time, and never turns on

yes but will the time count down ,

Just program it , press start for 3 sec, let go and watck it to se it the time will count down !!!

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
ok tried that, held start, waited for 2 minutes, the timer stayed the same (28 min)

ok you have a bad door switch ,

This switch has two sets of contacts one for interior light one to run dryer , Just because the interior light may go on when you open the door , does not mean it is not bad .

here is a link to your door switch , with part number, price, and where you can order it on- line. rt.pd?partNumber=8283288&productGroupId=0026&supplierId=110&brandId=x&documentId=W0305064&keySuffixId=NA&modelNumber=x&keyId=0041&pageId=00002&productTypeId=x&searchModelNumber=GEW9200LW1&subCompDesc=Cabinet%20parts&brandDesc=WHIRLPOOL&modelDesc=RESIDENTIAL-DRYER&backToLink=Return%20to%20part%20list

But of course it has to be pulled offv the washer and have the top removed ,this is done by removing screws in the rear of the top panel

If it had counted down it would have been either the control or a thermal fuse , since it does not count down I know its the door switch .

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
thanks, XXXXX XXXXX earlier problem where the automatic cycle did not dry, just the timed dry. is this in anyway related or do i also need to replace the moisture sensor
yes you will need to replace moisture sensor bars , possibly the harness or even the control for that issue.
