Hello I have a norcold rv refrigerator model 120x-im which was purchased in may 2oo4 and failed in april 2009. my service tec was told this model was no longer made and one would have to be built. my insurance company wants to charge me $300.00 above my $200.00 deductible stating that aftermarket parts could or should have been used.. IS THIS TRUE ?
Make: norcoldModel: 120X-IM Already Tried: service tech and appraisor have reviewed the unit and determined it must be replaced
HiCustomer
There are rebuilt units available for this unit. There are no "aftermarket" new parts if that is what you are asking.
What you need to do is send in the old unit (as a core) and they will ship a rebuilt unit back to you.
As to the reason why your insurance company wants to charge you to have your unit replaced I cant say. This would be a matter of how your insurance policy is written.
If you like I can forward your question to our legal department for a legal assessment of the contract terms.
Please advise.
Thank you.
Hello,Thank you for your feed back....Question.....Did you get your information fron Norcold ? If so would you happen to have a phone number and name that I could refer my insurance company to ?Gary
No, Gary. I didnt get this from Norcold. This is knowlege that I have aquired through research on the internet helping many Norcold owners here at JA over a three year period.
If you would like I can provide contact informatin for Norcold.
The information that your tech provided is correct. Norcold does not make this particular unit any more. This is pretty much standard proceedure for most all refrigeration manufacturers. They will produce a model for a short period of time and then move on to the next model that has newer features. Most companies stock and support the replacement parts for the models they have produced in the past. However, the norcold type of refrigeration units are rebuildable/rechargeable so there is no need for Norcold to stock the main refrigeration system for the units they have sold in the past. This is the biggest diffrence between the Norcold units and the compressor type units. When a compressor goes out on a standard refrigerator they do not rebuild them as it is not cost effective. The Norcold units are exactly the opposite. It is more cost effective to rebuild/recharge the used refrigeration system than to replace it with a new one.
I hope this addresses your concerns. If it doesnt I would appreciate it if you could explain what it is exactly that your insurance company is rejecting your claim for. If they are stateing that you should have bought cheaper parts to repair your unit with then I must say that that is a pretty lame excuse for not honoring their contractual obligations to you in this matter. It also seems that they have little knowlege of the Norcold line of refrigerators.
Please advise any further information you require.
