I have purchased a new cooktop for my JBP82C range. Do you have a set of replacement instructions for the replacement?
Make: GEModel: JBP82C Already Tried: Bought the new cooktop but haven't yet done anything more than to take out the 2 screws under front lip and lift assembly to see what I was up against.
Hello.
Unplug the range. Open the oven door and look under the lip of the cooktop. You will see 1 screw on each side(possibly one in the middle also) that you will need to remove. This will make the cooktop liftable. Lift the cooktop to reveal the burners. They will be attache to a long piece of metal(number 90 in the pic) that is attached on both sides. Remove those screws with somebody holding the burners so they do not fall and break. lay them on the insulation of the oven and carefully lift the cooktop off of the hinges on the back. Reinstall in reverse order and you will be done. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Robert. If I unplug the burners at the back of the stove when the top is lifted, can the whole assembly come out so that it is easier to take the burners off, or do I need to do it working underneath the lifted lid as you suggest?
Yes, but make sure you are extremely careful when removing the metal bar and don't touch inside the burners. They are held onto the metal bar by clips but can and will come off if held upside down without support. For you, removing the whole top might be easier but the first way is how I do it in houses for speed and minimal damage. Just lay a towel down on the surface you plan to work on and take your time.
OK. One last question.I just looked underneath and see that there are 2 screws on each end of both bars.Do you remove one bar at a time or do both bars need to be loosened and removed simultaneously and laid on the insulation.I'm worried that the assemply will fall apart if I remove one bar at a time.your advice?
If you want do it this way instead of removing it completely then remove the one towards the back first. It is best to have someone help you do this because you have to do one side at a time and the side you disconnect will sag down. Please choose the option you feel most comfortable with because I have done alot of these replacements and this is your first one. Either way is effecient and both require two people for safety of the burners.
The assemblies will not fall apart that easily but you don't want to have them hanging upside down because they can fall off.
