our model 550 has the drain keep stopping up behind the crisper drawers. how can i clear this thanks

When you poured the hot water down the drain did it drain out.
it did not drain out
The reason is its iced up.You will have to let the drain thaw out.
You can use a hair blower and thaw it out with that and have the fridge shut down while your doing the cleaning.Then buy a small hose and push it down and blow down the drain tube to clear.

the refrigerator is built in, so i cannot get to the drain hose from the back to use a hair dryer. how long should i turn it off.

Really till your able to get the drain to clear.Could be 4or 5 hrs.Its hard to thaw ice in a small tube.
