Hello...I have a 3 1/2 yr old GE GSS25TSR refridgerator/freezer that the freezer compartment frequently stops freezing, thawing the food & ice inside...any idea where to start troubleshooting?
DOes this happen daily, weekly, monthly, or no specified time frame?
Been happening daily; as a matter of fact, just thawed itself again, & now the refrigerator is not cooling properly. Where to start?
Open the freezer compartment, and look at the back wall is there any frost built up on the back wall?
WARNING, if you use the OPT OUT button on the tool bar, this will bar me from answering back to you. once pressed I cannot answer anymore of your questions...Use this button with caution...
Very little...
When it starts to thaw, how long does it last for?
Last night, I completly emptied it, cleaned it, & used a hair dryer to dry everything up & out...when I turned then freezer back on, worked perfectly 'till earlier this afternoon, & again, now the refridgerator isn't cooling. I CAN hear the motor running, however, when I pull it out from the wall....
There are 2 things this could be, one is the coils in the back of the unit when you pull it away from the wall need to be cleaned good or the mother board is failing and will need to be replaced..
How would I know which?
you can pull the unit out from the wall and remove the bottom cover, you can see the coils when looking from the back on the left hand side, make sure they are really clean.. You may need to use compressed air to clean them as on GE products they are not easy like some other models. If that does not do it for you then you will need to change the motherboard on the back of the unit...
Last question: is the motherboard an item I can obtain & replace myself or is this a Tech-serviced item exclusively?
The part number for the motherboard is WR55X10942, You can order the parts you need from the following places, www.apwagner.com, www.repairclinic.com, or www.partstore.com, all of these places offer easy returns and reasonable prices for thier items.
The replacement is easy on the back of the unit. It takes about 15 minutes only requires removing 2 or 3 screws and replacing it..
