i have a GE Profile ARctica Model #PSS23MSTC Side-by-side fridge. The fridge is only cooling to about 45 degrees and teh freezer to about 25. Have looked at all the troubleshooting suggestions, but nothing has worked.
Make: Ge Profile ArcticaModel: PSS23MSTC Already Tried: checked the temp controls, unplugging and replugging it in, checking the door seals, emptying the freezer (there was some frost buildup on the back - more like a snow-like frost), vacuuming the back of the fridge
It sounds like your defrost heater has gone out. Take everything out of the freezer and remove the lower back panel inside the freezer. This will expose the evaporator which will be covered in frost. Use a hair dryer to thaw out all the frost so that air can circulate again. At the bottom of the evaporator is the heater. It's a glass bulb and these break often just like light bulbs. Replace this part in the next two weeks or the frost will build up again.
I've defrosted all the ice, but there isn't a bulb that I can see. Is there somewhere else that I can look? .
it's at the bottom of the silver coils. It's covered in sheet metal and held on by 2 screws. In the middle of the sheet metal is the glass bulb about 12 inches long and 1/2 inch thick.
Found it, but how do I remove it? or will there be instructions in the new part that I buy?
There aren't instructions. It's very easy to change though. It's held in by 2 screws on the left and right side. Just remove the screws and the heater will unplug and pull out.
