i have a gd5thgxkso2 ref. it stopped cooling while we were away cleaned it out still smells baking soda, bleach etc. how do i remove the smell ? As far as repair there is an overload protector and start relay at compressor . I removed it and noticed burn mark at one of the compressor contacts. i have orderd a relay and overload. could the entire problem be caused by a loose connection at the compressor 3 contacts
To remove the smell you need to leave the doors open. If you see any burn marks on the start relay the yes most likely that is you problem unless the compressor is bad.
the burn or carbon marks are on overload protector which connects directly to the 3 compressor contacts one of which is loaded with carbon deposits . have you seen this arcing problem before with this model ?
Yes I have seen this before. There is no way of testing the relay other then replacing it and seeing if the compressor starts. Most the time it is just the relay.
