Hello, I have Kenmore Model 253.21711103 freezer that seems to be running all the time but does not get cold enough to freeze water anymore. I noticed it when things were getting soft but I thought it was the result of too much frost. I emptied it, defrosted it then plugged it back in but it still isn't cold enough. The thermostat is on the coldest setting and if I turn it to off I hear the compressor stop. It then starts again when I turn it to colder but never gets cold enough. Frost is starting to form on the upper shelf again but only on the last few loops of tubing. Any idea what could be wrong and is it worth trying to fix?
after you defrosted it has any frost started to build up on the shelfs again yet
Yes but just on the upper shelf and just in the back for about the first 2 loops of the aluminum tubing that I think is called the grid-top evaporator in my manual
how long has it been plugged back up and running again
About 2 days.
been running 2 day and this is all the frost thats on the coils?
Yes, thats all after at least 2 days
well i have bad news for you ,, you have eather a freon leak or bad compressor and this repair will cost more than replacing the freezer ,, at this point i would say to replace the freezer but this is something i can not tell you to do but you are looking between $400 and $700 to fix this freezer / larry
