I have an undercounter sub zero refer/freezer model 245. I am experiencing water and ice on the floor of the freezer compartment. I have shut it down and completely defrosted it for 2 days. When I turn it back on the water/ice returns in a few days. Any thoughts?
hello,I just can't find a parts diagram for your unit. But your problem is the drain hole of the drain pan under the evaporator coil is clogged. As the unit defrosts, water that melts from the evaporator should go to the pan and goes to the hole and goes out of the unit. But if the hole is clogged with dirt , water would not flow and becomes ice as the unit freezes again after defrosting. Then the next defrost, water would now overflow to the freezer flooring and becomes ice too as the freezer starts to cool again. That explains why it would take a few days before the flooring would have water again.
So what's the fix and where do I locate the drain hole
You will have to locate the drain hole. It should be under the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is the coil that freezes at the back of the freezer section. You would have to remove the back wall inside the freezer and you will find the evaporator coil. Then under this coil, as the heater melts the frost, it would be collected at the bottom of the coil. This pan would have the hole that you need to clean. You might want to pour hot water on the hole to melt the ice that is in there, then you can observe if water would now flow to to the outside of the unit.
