Customer Question

I had a pot of ribs boiling on my gas range and it overflowed onto the insulation below. I didn't discover it until I turned my oven on tonight and had smoke and fumes coming out from below the range.
Do I cut out the burnt section, replace/repair the area, and/or need to replace the complete insulation padding?
Also, I am a novice in home repairs, so is this something that requires a professional technician? I have removed the range top to determine the problem, but I am not sure what it might entail to repair/replace the insulation. The burnt section is about 3in x 6in.
Thank you!

Hi thanks for the question.

All you have to do with that is take out the wet and go down between the wall and the oven and remove the insulation you have to till its dry an replace it with regular insulation.Thats all you have to do.

Part of the insulation burned when I turned on the oven. Do I cut out the burnt section and replace just that piece with new insulation? If so, is there a special insulation to use for the gas range? The insulation is strapped with thin wires across the top and sides. Is it ok to just plug new insulation over the cut out area? Where do you recommend buying insulation?

I assume then that this is a simple job that I should be able to complete -- nothing technical about it?

Thank you!

dont worry about the strings holding the insulation.Cut out what is burnt or you feel you should replace.Home depot you can buy it there.Call your friends and ask if they have a bit.

Sorry, but one more question again. Is there special insulation for a gas range/oven, i.e. is there a specific kind of insulation I should ask for? Sometimes the sales associates at Lowes or Home Depot are not necessarily knowledgeable regarding my inquiries, so I would like to go there with a specific description/type of insulation that I need. I am familiar with insulation for your home, but I am assuming there is something different for the range. Thanks for your patience.
