Customer Question

I want to test the temperature control and defrost timer in my Kenmore Model No. 596.72212200. The temperature control appears to be located at the back of the upper inside part of the refrigerator but I can't see how to remove the plastic cover over the control. How do I do that?

the temp control is under the front panel and you just snap the front panel where the knob is loose from the back housing and then if you want to get to the timer in the back of the upper panel you will then remove the light cover and then you can access the parts

The question I asked was "How do I remove the cover to access the temperature control at the back of the refrigerator?" Your answer is not responsive. There is no temperature control in the front of the refer...it is located at the back - PN 18 on the figure you supplied. What I need to know is how to get remove the cover - PN 16 (and possibly PN 19) - to get access to the control. Also, I would like to know if PN 12 is the defrost timer and, if it is, how to access it.

#24 is the temp control and #18 is the air flow control and yes #12 is the defrost timer and if you are trying to get to the air flow control then you need to snap #16 loose from the back wall and pull #19 out to access the air flow control ,,, #16 just snaps into the back
