Customer Question

I have a gas kenmore series 80 dryer that does not heat up. The dryer runs, however ther is no heat.   I have checked and cleaned the vent in the dryer as well as the vent leading out of the house.

My normal appliance repair person is on vacation until the 5th, is there something I should start with or check myself?

Hi thanks for the question.

when you first start the dryer do you hear a click.

And has it taXXXXX XXXXXer to dry a load ?

And where is the lint filter located ?

Customer replied 1026 days and 3 hours ago.

Yes it does click when it is started.

The dryer is not heating up at all - my wife says it was taking longer to dry a load before it broke down.

The lint filter is located on the top, back right corner.

Your problem could be the igniter its located at the gas valve. Are you handy with a few screwdrivers The top will have to lifted and the front removed.I can help you with that.

Customer replied 1026 days and 3 hours ago.

I have lifted up the top and it looks like the front is held on with two hex head screws and clips. I assume I will need to remove these to take off the front?

Yes the two one each side ,that will take the front off . you don't have to move the drum.

The igniter is on the left of the gas valve its a fragile part, look at it for a whitish mark on it or completly broken.let me know whhow you make out I will send you a picture of the part.

Customer replied 1026 days and 3 hours ago.

I hasve the cover off and I am not too sure which one is the igniter. I assume it is white and located inside the heating element?

Please send the picture so I will know fo sure.

That can mean its broken inside the porceline If you have a meter yopu can check it to see if its open

Customer replied 1026 days and 2 hours ago.

Unfortunetly I do not have a meter, will get one in the morning.

Never mind I will have to replace it since it just broke. Is there anything else that may cause the problem or a cheap part I should replace since I am going to the store to get a new one.
