i have a amana microwave model AMV1162AAQ. five years old. evey year sinc i have owned it it stops heating up food. everytime the service man comes they replace the magnetron and it works for awhile. last time the magnetron, transformer, diode were replaced and it just broke again. the warranty expires 8-23-09. I dont want to have his problem again. a new magnetron and diode was sent to me and i am going to replace it myself. Since the magnetron keeps on failing is there something else that is causing the failure? And does the capacitor on this unit discharge itself or do i need to do it

Magnatron failure can be a voltage problem.....as voltage goes down amperage goes up and with it HEAT! No the cap does not self discharge! CAREFUL! They bite!

Replace the diode at the same time just to be safe, make sure the cap is the proper value for the machine too!

ok you state voltage goes down amperage goes up what do i look at to fix problem? And do i have to discharge capacitor to replace diode and transformer?
ANY TIME YOU OPEN THE CABINET DISCHARGE THE CAP! I'VE BEEN BITTEN TOO MANY TIME GETTING LAZY. IF A VOLTAGE DROP PROBLEM, YOU REALLY NEED AN ELECTRICIAN. I CAN'T GO INTO THAT SINCE I AM NOT REALLY QUALIFIES. PLEASE NOTE YOU MAY GET 110 VAC WITHOUT A LOAD BUT THE VOLTAGE MAY DROP UNDER A LOAD. TO MEASURE, USE A HIGH WATTAGE APPLIANCE such as a space heater, toaster, etc.
are you talkig about the voltage to the microwave via the outlet as if the voltage is dropping there or is the voltage dropping in the microwave? Do you know if this is a common problem with the magnetron on this microwave?
Sorry, the wall outlet, this is much more common then people might imagine. NO I do not know of a defect that is occuring in this unit.
