Good Morning: We had to transport an Amana RErfrigerator (about 7 yrs. old) on its side yesterday. It was on its side for about 1 hr. I've heard that its okay, as long as you let it sit upright for a day. In getting it home, I saw a photo on line that pointed out the 'discharge and return lines' that the oil can seep into and I'm concerned that these refrigerator lines are placed in a way that would make it very difficult (physically impossible?) for the oil to return to the compressor. I haven't plugged it in yet (1/2 way through the day of waiting)....Any sage wisdom? I read a previous 'help note' online that suggested turning the refrigerator in a circlular manner...Ten minutes on one side, then ten on it's head, then ten on the other side and then back to its base. Any help? Thanks!
Wont help...If the oil has leaked into the coils then you are out of luck unless you have someone remove the oil which would get quite expensive...Let it sit upright for 24 hours and take your chances...Or have someone come out and service the unit...Wish i could help you more ...Thanks Bob
Hi Bob: Thanks for the insight. How is it that waiting for a day works for some refrigerators and not for others? Is there anyway to tell 'soon' after we plug it in? How much time 'generally' would it take for a service person to make sure the oils in the right place? thanks, Steve
Just depends on if the oil makes it way back down to the compressor...Once the oil mixes with the freon it will get hot and block the lines up...Depends on your area they would have to purge the lines out .Could run any where from $200-$400...Bob
