Kenmore sidebyside. Water will not fill icetray or dispence.

Customer Question

First single water solinoid will not open. When pushing water dispence switch in front, voltage at first solinoid goes from 40vac to zero in a second. If on DC scale reads 55v constance. There is a diode across the solinoid. Print read 115v. Any ideas?

Good,,,thanks....one of those solenoids should have wires that
appear to run to a black bundle...can you see that bundle possibly
under the unit in the back?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Yes, Looking at the print I wonder if the Icemaker circuit sw is bad? It looks like the thing that turns on that first solinoid.

Expert:  Barry G. replied 5 years ago.
That sir is a diode...I almost pulled out my hair the first time
I had to work on one of those.
To verify it is bad you will have to UNPLUG the unit. Pierce
the far end of the wire on the opposite side away from the
solenoid and plug the other meter lead into the wire that
attaches to the solenoid...putting the diode in the middle.
You are reading to see if its open or closed.

Here is the trick it will only read one way if its good.
It will not read either way if its bad.

If you find that bad is the case you should know your unit was
built by Frigidaire so when you go to pick up that part locally
you will not have such a hard time.

After checking the diode is reads 1.4ohm one way and open the other so I think its

ok. I Tryed the dispensor sw again and THe light comes on and I still can not get that

water solinoid to open. You think it might be the ice maker sw?

Expert:  Barry G. replied 5 years ago.
Wow,,, well there goes my idea out the window. I am surprised.
What made me think of that is you are getting some voltage. And
that is the way that thing works. You will get some voltage but not
the full 110. I seem to recall around 90 volts but I was nt sure if
I was remembering correctly.

To answer your question. I dont want to mislead you. I cannot
honestly say yes thats it. I don't have access to that drawing
I think the best thing I can do is opt out and give another tech who
has perhaps seen your problem an opportunity.
Good luckCustomer Nice to meet you. If you will
hang around a bit another tech will be along shortly.

Did a little more digging and with the solinoid pluged in I put my meter across the leads and when I push the dispenser lever I get 70vac across the solinoid valve. But It does not open. You think this is enough voltage to open it or not?
