Kenmore 80 series washer, about 8 yrs old. Sometimes will spin, sometimes it won't. What can be the problem? Can we fix it ourselves? Is it worth having someone in to fix or should we just get new? Could Chas please answer....wouldn't let me pick him (error on page). Thanks!!
he's not online is the problem I believe which is why it won't let you choose him.

When the unit doesn't spin out does it still drain the water completely?

It does still drain, but the clothes are dripping wet. Thanks!!

ok so, do you know if it's still spinning slowly or just sits there the entire time and doesn't spin at all?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
When we push in the button in the hole to make it spin with the cover open, sometimes it spins normal, (not much anymore), sometimes it spins real slow, and sometimes it doesn't spin at all.
ok so then it sounds like your clutch is going bad unfortunately and slipping. The part is rather hard to access as it's above the transmission so you have to remove the transmission in order to replace it. The part is rather inexpensive at about $40 or so usually but it will be quite a bit of work to access it. Here is a link to a video on how to access your washer and it gives you the general idea of what it takes to remove the transmission.
