Hi! I have an Amana dryer (nine years old) and this past month

Customer Question

Hi! I have an Amana dryer (nine years old) and this past month it has been "sweating". Today it quit working....what might be the problem?

what do you mean sweating. Does it fill the room with humidity?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Not the room, however, the floor right beneath the door has condensation.
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
Ok so your house vent to the dryer is clogged there for it is unable to push the hot humid air outside. Now the dryer got to hot and blew the safty hi-limit fuse.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

I am going outside to check the vent, but have a feeling this is the problem. If this is the case, how to I fix/replace the safety hi-limit fuse? Be back inside in a couple minutes.

Thank you.

Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
Do you have the model #?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
The vent was 100% clear from the inside and out. I do not see the model #. The only labeling is a "Warnings" sticker on the back. It is an Amana Commercial Quality with 7 cycles, 4 temps and a stainless drum.
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
If you open up the dryer door you should find a sticker in the door opening with the model # XXXXX it?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Okay, thanks for the help. Model#ALE643RAW

The lower front panel comes off. Then look way in the back right. You will see a thermo fuse like in the picture. You can pull the wires of of it and hook the together and see if it starts. if it starts you will need this part.

How do you get off the panel?
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
There are to tabs between the lower panel and the upper panel. Press the tabs with a small screwdrive or a putty knife.
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
Or there is 2 screws at the bottom of the panel.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
With the pliers that I own, I am not strong enough to unscrew the bolts. I am going to need to borrow from a neighbor (tomorrow). I would like to continue this "advice" until completion/to Accept. Does this work with your schedule?
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
I work 7-5 every day. If you run into any problems just reply back to me and I will answer it when I get home.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Good to know. I will get the panel off tomorrow, see if your suggestion works and if so, I am happy to order the part and 'accept' to pay. Is it easy to replace the fuse (gees, once I get the panel door removed!!)?
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
It is pretty easy it is held on with (2) 1/4 inch srews and you have to reach a ways back in there. Please dont reply to anyone but me if you have any questions.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Does this risk your pay? I will leave this window open to ensure future questions go your direction.
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
Only if you accept on someone else. Then I dont get paid but as long as you accept on me I get paid. We will take to you tomarrow.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Okay, got off the panel, tried the fuse, vent was 100% clear....plus many other things, having help from a friend and no success. If this isn't something I can do with your guidance, I am sad to say I will be paying for a repair guy to come out as laundry is piling. Thanks for your help so far.....thoughts?
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
check the door switch.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Door switch? Meaning what? The light/door button works, the door functions,....
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Did this, won't run.
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
You did both of them?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes, my friend and dad got down there and tried them all.
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
well I guess you have to call a repairman. Im almost 90% sure that one of the thermo fuses are bad.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
That's what I think/thought, however, my neighbor/friend is pretty solid with this type of stuff. He touched all wires, etc....and got nothing. We checked the circuit breaker, all fuses, ventilation, etc....no success.
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.
did he hook the wires together after he pulled them off the fuse. This will bypass the fuse.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes, he actually used those exact words "bypassing the fuse" as he was explaining his efforts.
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 5 years ago.

The only thing left would be a bad start switch or a motor. Both of with takes a tech to diagnose.

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Interesting...my dad mentioned the bad switch idea. Well see, I just hope someone is able to come out tomorrow. Sorry this didn't work out! I was eager to troubleshoot with success. Thank you.

Your welcome...take care.
