Unfortunately, the diagram does not indicate how the lower panel attaches and stays closed. The lower panel is hinged across the bottom, but I cannot figure how it stays closed at the top.
This is the site and schematics for your Kitchenaid model #KUDS220T0 Dishwasher.It looks plain to me that there are a couple of screws and washers plus a bracket that hold the access panel(Or Kick Panel) closed.If you do not have this hardware you can purchase it at the site below.The diagram does indicate and sow how the lower panel attach's and stays closed.This assembly holds it closed.
