Washer on spin cycle stats to smell and smoke. Would this be motor or pump problems?
What is the make and model#
Customer: replied 8 years ago.
My wife was washing a load and she heard a noise then she smelled something burning and saw smoke coming from washer. I tried running washer through final spin cycle and water went out but washer started to smell a burning smell so I shut it off. Not sure where smell coming from, hard to tell. Belts seem ok. What else should I check. Not sure why MOTOR didn't stop if it was getting hot and smelling. I thought that was a safety feature. ANY ideas?
What is the make of the unit?

Not sure what more you need that iI can give you. I have the front removed from washer Everything looks fine but there is a burnt smell. I don't think its a rubber smell. I noticed a small amount of water on bottom of cabinet wether this means anything. let me know what I should do or look for.

Reach inside and try and turn the transmision pulley by hand.It is the big pulley in the middle.Turn the pulley in both directions If it won't turn you need to replace the transsmision it has siezed.

Turns tub Counter clockwise but spins free clock wise.
Put the unit in spin tell me what happens.
Customer: replied 8 years ago.
Nothing happened but I gave the tub a spin inside and the washer started spinning but there was aloud continues noise coming coming from below. Sounds like a bad bearing. Metal sort of grinding.

Replace the transmission it is bad.
