Our microwave is making a squealing noise when it is running. sounds like fan that my need to be oiled kind of thing.... is there a way to take care of this without replacing the microwave or is this indicative of a bigger problem?

This could indicate a bigger problem. There is a fan that blows on the magnetron to keep it cool. If it squeals you need to replace it. If you have the model # XXXXX can look the part up for you.

If you can get to the fan spin it with you hand and see if it feels ok.

i can't get to the fan. so this is probably something someone would have to come to the house and fix correct?

it is a microwave is about the only appliance I recommend not to work on unless you are trained. There is high voltage in it and if you touch the wrong 2 wires it could be a deadly shock. Also if you call someone out then they can make sure it is the fan.
