there could be a coulpe problems I wont give answer till I am sure. Can you open up the freezer door and tell me if there is frost on the back panel and do you hear a fan running. It would help to know what brand it is
Customer: replied 8 years ago.
GE brand, no frost, the only fan we hear is the one running the freezer
Expert:  Appliance Man replied 8 years ago.
pull the unit foward and remove the lower back panel. See if the fan and compressor is running
Customer: replied 8 years ago.

yes it is running, but the motor is coverd with lent collected on it?

Expert:  Appliance Man replied 8 years ago.
you want to clean that up but thats probably not the problem. well if all that is good you need to remove the back pane in the freezer and get a better look at the evapartor coils. Remove it and tell me if you see a block of ice or just a thin layer
Customer: replied 8 years ago.
the coils are coverd pretty good with ice

ok how old is this and do you have the model #. GEs have alot of problems with the defrost heater. I can look the part up for you. If you melt the frost of with a hair dryer it will work for 2 weeks while the part is on order
