any ideas???
Expert:  Bryan replied 6 years ago.
are you unplugging this and plugging it back in right away? how old is this ref. ? this shows a mechanical timer in it. when you unplug and then plug it right back in it wont start right away. its not good for ref,. unplug for at least 5 minutes before plugging back in . also this may be in a defrost cycle and thats why you dont hear it start back up . plug it back in and wait for an hour and see if it comes back on by itself. defrost can take up to an hour thanks Bryan
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
this is not a very old refrigderator. Why would it be in a defrost mode? I left it unplugged for 20 minutes and just replugged but still no compressor or fan. Just the lights and everything else.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I'll wait an hour after re plugging and if it comes back on I'll accept your answer. if not I will not accept as it did not help and I'll have to call a service tech to come onsite to repair or see what else could be wrong.
Expert:  Bryan replied 6 years ago.
well from what I see in parts list it has a mechanical timer which means it runs like a clock and might have been ready to go into defrost when this happened. it could be you have a bad timer also. one more thing is cold control could be bad. if it doesnt come on in another half hour let me know and I'll see if you can test cold control. do you have a volt meter and know how to use it? let me know Bryan
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I can get one but my daughters husband does'nt have one. What connector do I need to check? One thing to mention is that the fan and compressor did come on for a minute when I was moving the freezer side control lever but went back off when my son in law unplugged the power cord again. That was much earlier and since then it has not come back on. So maybe the cold control is bad?
Expert:  Bryan replied 6 years ago.
sounds like the cold control then, its not to hard to change, call 1-800-540-0800 appliance parts center and they can get part out to you if you dont have a supply house close by , these guys have everything use them all the time myself. hour are m-f 9-6pm sat 9-1pm eastern time , hope this helps Bryan

I have a meter now. What do I check?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Is the cold control located inside the fridge? Most likely? What do they cost? Can you give me the points to check as I went out and bought a volt meter from Ace.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I want to be sure it's that so can you tell me what to check with the VOM?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

Look I am no longer by the fridge as you never answered my question on what I should check with the Volt Meter I went out and bought.

Can you now answer?

Expert:  Bryan replied 6 years ago.
sorry had to go out last night , take the volt meter and check for continuity acrossed both spades that the two wires connect to. the cold control should be the one you turned for the freezer section that made the ref. start running before your son in law unplugged it. if you dont know how to check continuity then try putting the two wires together and tape so they dont touch and plug ref. in and see if it comes on. if it does you need cold control. let me know Bryan
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
So your saying to check the continuity across the 2 wires that connect to the Cold Control? I can also put the wires together but tape them so they don't touch? Shouldn't they touch so that the fridge kicks on as that would casue the wires to close the circuit? Yes I do know how to check continuity as I have worked on many electronic devices before. I believe if the fridge is warm than checking the continuity should zero out correct or is it the opposite?
Expert:  Bryan replied 6 years ago.
I sorry you need to put wires together nad tape so they dont ground out is what i meant to say . try that if ref. kicks on change cold coltrol. thanks Bryan
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Does this cold control, control both sides Fresh food side and freezer side?
Expert:  Bryan replied 6 years ago.
well it runs the compressor and fans. you shuold have two controls cold control and airflow control. let me know. did it start? Bryan
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I am not at the refridge right now and won't be until later this afternoon.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I ordered both the cold control and defrost timer since I am not sure which component is bad and I am not at the refridgerator right now. I can get them at a local parts house here in San Jose, Ca. for not much cost but it will take a day so that's why I order now and ordered both instead of waiting. I'll post tomorrow and let you know how it turned out. Appreciate the help you provided. Thanks.......Mike

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
It was the cold control. I tried the Defrost timer first as it is easier to replace but no help. Replaced the cold control and it worked. Thanks again for the help.
