Bottom half of the refrig doesn''t cool and we have defrosted the top and let all the ice melt and then turned it back on and now it has froze up again and does not cool the bottom half. What can be our problem?
Hi, thanks for using JustAnswer.com. It sounds like you have some type of defrost problem. May I please have the model # XXXXX your refrigerator to better assist you?

Is the back panel icing up? If so, one of three components is at fault. Without a model # XXXXX info I give you will be very general and not very helpful. If you can get the model # XXXXX would be great and we can get that thing figured out for you!
Reply to Town 's Post: Back panel was iced up and so without the model number because the little lady couldn't find the number so we will have to look for it ourselves what should we do until we get the number?
About the only thing you can do is thaw it out again. Is this refrig pretty old or do you know? There are 3 components, a timer, heater, and a thermostat that control the defrost. One has failed. The heater and the thermostat can be tested with an ohmmeter. Just check for continuity . You should have continuity through both of them, IF THEY ARE STILL COLD. If they are both good, (show continuity) the timer is bad. If one is open, (no continuity), replace it. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.
