The evaporator on my central a/c unit is iced over.

Resolved Question:

The evaporator on my central a/c unit is iced over.   Any likely causes?   Ice entends also on refridgerant coils to outside of the house.

Hi, Thank you for using justanswer for your appliance questions!


The only thing that causes this condition is lack of air flow over the coil. There could be a couple of things wrong.
Is the fan running? Is the filter clean? Possible that the A coil is plugged with lint and dirt.
Shut the unit down and let the ice defrost completely. You dont want to run it this way , the frost back to the condensing unit may damage the compressor.
