Newer refrigerators run a refrigerant line from the condenser through the mullion area ( place you're saying feels hot ) This is to prevent condensation from forming due to the temperature difference of fresh food and freezer sections . This is hot refrigerant. This should not feel hot to the touch unless your refrigerator is running way too much ( which you say it is ) So check to see if the condenser coil ( underneath fridge ) is dirty and make sure the condenser fan is running as these will make a hotter than normal condenser and long run times.
