My Whirlpool Full size duet Washer GHW9150 has developed a very loud banging during the spin cycle very very loud. Also I noticed a black grit in our wash sink after the machine drained. I was told that the banging could be caused by the drive system is failing. And that it could be very costly to repair Could you advise

If your machine is very loud in hi speed spin and has a raspy growling noise when you turn the basket by hand, most likely your rear bearing has failed. The machine has a 5 yr. warranty on parts. You will need the outer rear tub assm. (that contains the bearings) a inner spin basket, and a pulley. A shop manual, I can help you with that.
