This is an American, attributed to Pennsylvania (the curved sides indicate this region), Sheraton/Empire period (1825-1850)

dresser with eagle brass hardware and barley twist columns

featuring a flame mahogany veneer top drawer. The value of this dresser is $800 to $1000. I would choose the lower end of this range because of the many nicks and scratches.

Some sites that I recommend are Varagesale.com, Chairish.com, Ioffer.com, Furnishly.com, Deconet.com, Lushpad, Krrb.com, and letgo.com.
You can also go to invaluable.com or liveauctioneers.com and search their directory for an auction house near you and consign to them.

How do I determine the age of the chest

It dates to about 1850 (I did mention that in the beginning of my answer).
