I have a 12 piece silver plated or silver service set with 7

Customer Question

I have a 12 piece silver plated or silver service set with 7 piece serving set with Wm Rogers stamped on it. How can I determine if it is real silver and the value? My grandmother received it as a gift from her son, my uncle 12/14/1966 from Germany.

Hello and welcome! My name is Doris.
I have been an antiques collector, dealer and appraiser for over 56 years.
I will be pleased to help you.

Your set will have the word "sterling" on the back if it were sterling.

To give you value, I need to know the following -

Does it states the pattern name or number on the back? If not, please send me clear, close-up photos of the pattern.

You may need to use the Macro (flower) function of your camera.

To send photos you may use the "reply to expert" in the blue box link on your reply page or the "paper clip" found in the toolbar you see on your reply page.
Please do not send in ZIP format. The jpg or jpeg format works best.

An explanation of this method can be found here:

Your set serves 12 (known as 12 place settings)

How many pieces does each person have?

What serving pieces are there? These can add as much as 30% to the value of a set.

Kind regards,

About 7 pieces per person. Does not state name. Just Wm Rogeres with an eagle and star and also "SI" stamped on the back of each utensilServing piece, see bottom tray of photo--a couple of lager serving spoons, large fork, gravy ladle, etc. I don't really know the names of each serving utensil.
