Customer Question

OK Doris,
Here is number 9.
I do not believe you would call this one antique. My mom purchased it on her first trip to the then Soviet Union, If memory serves 1983-1985. She purchased this from an official museum shop in what is now back to St Petersburg. This was hers, I have one as well, mine is prettier, but I have no Idea of value. I remember her telling me that they were more than just little boxes, that they were "The Real Deal" and that I should be careful with them. In "mom speak" that usually meant that she thought they were expensive!
Black/red traditional lacquered box. Circa 1985 +/-

I am still working on the shell sculpture.

When you get the time, please answer my request for more information there.

I hope to get to this one as soon as I finish the shell one.

No problem Doris, no hurry, I have some company coming for dinner, and I will be busy tomorrow. I put some "inquires" out to some old friends in OR, but it might take a day or two. I will let you know as soon as I find out anything about Mr. Ferguson. Have a great night. I will try to send you a couple more items as well. Have a wonderful evening. Regards, Jeanette

I have moved on to the Russian box here.

Please tell me if there are any numbers or letters anywhere on the box?

Does the box feel light?

I am trying to help you determine if the box is authentic.

Mom bought it, I will probably get this wrong, at the official museum gift shop at the Hermitage? Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. She said to take care because "they were the real deal.

Have you looked for numbers or letters?

The "real deals"were only made in four cities. Their marks should be on the box.

It may be that your box was made as late as the 1990s, in which case, the city name mark would not apply.

Let me know. Look carefully in the design.

Kind regards,
