I have a storage unit in Houston, Texas where I have antiques

Customer Question

Hi,
I have a storage unit in Houston, Texas where I have antiques stored in a climate controlled unit. I need to make a trip there soon and meet with an antique appraiser as well as a top notch antique buyer/buyers for best bid. I have 3 grandfather clocks, antique chairs, paintings, etc.. that need to be looked at. Please refer me to what you consider top choices for contacts in Houston. Thanks so much
Stacey

Hi Stacey, The best method would be to have an auction house representative look over the inventory. If you offer what you have to a dealer they will offer you 10% - 30% of the lowest perceived value. You will want to contact Heritage Auctions, although their headquarters are in Dallas, they do have an outpost in Houston and their rep can look over the collection for you at no charge. Basically, all auction houses will look over what you have at no fee. As for an appraiser to come in, the fees can start at $150 per hour on up. The best way to find a qualified specialist in your area is through the ISA and AAA, or International Society of Appraisers and Appraiser's Association of America. All of the accredited members have passed exams and are qualified.
