Customer Question

I have a painting my father purchased at an estate sale in Missouri some time in the 70s. He was told it was owned by German immigrants. I would like to find a value for the painting but I'm not sure where to go.

Hello and welcome! My name is Doris.
I have been an antiques collector, dealer and appraiser for over 56 years.
I will be pleased to help you.
I cannot read the signature. I'd like to know what you think it might be.
Please send me a close-up photo of the signature.
You may need to use the macro function (flower icon) of your camera to get a good clear photo.
To send photos you may use the "attach" or "add" link you see on your reply page.
If it is not there then you may use the free internet photo site
imgur.com. Use the following instructions:
Go to http://www.imgur.com
a. Click "Computer"
b. Find the photo file on your computer that you want to send
c. Click open on the file
d. You will see a Start Upload link on the imgur.com page.
Click on it
e. Your image will appear on the screen
f. Highlight and copy the address link under Direct Link
to the right on the imgur page
g. Paste that link into your reply box on Just Answer
Kind regards,
Doris

Thank you for the clear photo.
I'll see what I can do with that but I cannot make any guarantee that I will find the name.
I will try. I'll get back to you with the results of my search as soon as possible but it will take some time.
Kind regards,
Doris

If it's any help, I also have a canvas the same size by the same artist that's a Mediterranean scene....looks like it's something off the coast of Italy...Greece...maybe Spain....I can send that if you'd like.

Yes, send me two photos....One of the painting and its signature.
Kind regards,
Doris

I have a frame for this one, and had just started taking it all apart for a Pinterest project when a friend told me I should get the painting appraised....

Thank you for the additional photos.
Again, this will take time.
I thank you in advance for your patience.
Kind regards,
Doris

Unfortunately, I am unable to find an artist with a similar name.
That leaves two choices.
I can value your painting as being by an unlisted artist; ie, an artist who has not received international recognition and/or has never been part of a major exhibition.
Or - I can "opt out" to open your question to the other professionals in case one of them can find your artist.
Please let me know.
Kind regards,
Doris

Does my "membership" allow the question to be put out to others with no additional charge?
Expert:  Doris - dfm925 replied 1 year ago.
There is absolutely no additional charge. You do not need to relist. I will just release your question. Is that what you want me to do?Kind regards,Doris

Yes, please.....I hadn't even considered this until my friend stopped me from using the painting as a background for a craft project. Now, I'm curious!Thank you!
