I have a copy of Tarzan of the Apes, A.L. Burt Co, NY publishers with Frontispiece copyright A. C. McClurg & Co. 1914 copyrighted in Great Britain. To Emma Hulbert Burroughs. The book has a name inside. It has no dust cover, and is in green color. The book/pages are in delicate condition with one torn page. Can you give me an idea of the value and/or if it would improve its value if I had it repaired?
Good afternoon,The 1914 edition, green cloth, is a reprint and has a retail value of $300-350 in very good condition with no dust jacket. The true first edition has a red cloth cover with gilt lettering. I would suggest not having the book repaired as repairs can lessen the value of the book. If you are interested in selling, I suggest finding a book dealer near you through the member director page on the ABAA website. Give a detail description of the book - title, date, etc., and have pictures ready if they are interested. Expect 50% of the retail price to be offered. If there are other condition issues, the value will be less then what I've stated. If you'd like to send a picture XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX with ChrysalisTM in the subject line I would be happy to look at it and let you know it's condition. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
