Good evening Lisa,
In the current condition your 1847 edition of the Illustrated Hand Book for Travelers through the United States would value between 1200-1400 dollars. A fair market value for the book if you were looking to sell it would be between 700-900 dollars in a secondary market. This is a very rare and collectible book in the best possible condition. Your book looks to be in great shape. As for a place to sell the book you can start off with the basics, Ebay is a very user friendly online auction site. As far as major book auctions you may want to look at Heritage Auction house, who holds book auctions frequently, as well as Bloomsbury Auctions. If you have a local antiquarian book shop they may be able to assist you in selling the book. They can get into antiquarian book sites that only dealers can sell on and they can also connect you to local collectors who may be looking for your book.
I hope this information was helpful to you,
best of luck with your book,
Frank
