Hi James. The number you gave is from the case, right? Can you open up the watch and tell me the number from the gears inside the watch? Here's a site with some tips on how to open your watch in case you need it:http://www.thewatchguy.com/pages/OPENCASE.htmlThanks,Diana
Serial number of the Elgin watch itself is 14077363---15 jewel. case states "guaranteed 25 years". Pls respond-- to Jim XXXXXXXXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX Many Thanks41036.9501534375
Hi Jim.Thanks. Let me check the records on that and I'll be right back.~Diana
Thanks again.Based on the records of that serial number, that's a grade 312 Elgin. It should have a model 6 movement and be a size 16 with about 15 jewels. It should have a 3/4 plate. It dates to about 1910. It was part of a run of about 2000 movements.Based on my records of those specs, it's typically valued in the range of $75 to $175. The guaranteed 25 years means that your case is gold filled. A size 16 gold filled case adds about $50 to the value.Exact pricing will depend on the condition and where you sell it.At an auction, you're really dependent on the audience unless you stick a reserve on your watch. They can go high or low. Plus you might have dealers in the audience, so they might try to get values lower so they can make a profit later on. So, auction prices generally fall around dealer prices.Online markets (like Ebay) tend to go for less...sometimes as much as 25% less. Trade and shows and dealers won't offer as much.Your best values will come from a private sale to another collector. Many specialize in vintage and antique jewelry and some will allow you to sell on consignment.Craigslist is a worthy shot because it's free. Etsy and Amazon are turning about to be a great alternative to Ebay. Rubylane, Tias, and Cyberattic are great online stores for selling old watches and do sell worldwide..
