I have an etching (?) type picture by Charles Goslin that is entitled The Kansas Legend. It is approximately 18 x 20 inches. It is etched on a stone like substance and is numbered 915/2500. It was sold by Collectors Art Limited in Kansas City MO. Could you give me an idea of its worth?
Already Tried: Looking on-line on eBay, searching under Charles Goslin and calling a gallery in KC
Hello, Michelle here. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
What is depicted in the art? Is it a person, animals, scenery?
I live just a couple of miles from Mr. Goslin and am familiar with his art and community volunteer work.
The majority of his works depict historic western scenes especially those having something to do with Kansas history.
As for Collector's Art Limited they were an art publishing company but are no longer in existence.
This one has 17 different items, The indians, American or Plains indians, buffalo, Spanish, transportation, frontier settled, missions, bleeding K
Sorry, I didn't finish, bleeding Kansas, capitol, state seal, Carrie Nation, cattle, lawmen, great men (Eisenhower- WA White), wheat, industry and symbols (sunflower, meadowlark, cottonwood etc.) It is a group of all within the art.
I have made several phone calls to art collector's and dealers and no one has heard of this particular piece. Mr. Goslin has murals painted in several cities and town around this part of Kansas but I could not find one that was this type of collage work.
The general consensus is that this particular piece was created as a fundraiser for "Shawnee Town" as Mr. Goslin lives in Shawnee, KS and they have a little town/museum set up with many original buildings from the old city of Shawnee. Shawnee Town was built in the 1970's or early 1980's.
As for current value, since no one seems to know anything about these and I cannot find sale prices at auction or through any other venues, I would value it at $150 USD based on decorative appeal.
I have put a call in to 'Shawnee Town' to see if they can give me any information on it but will not hear back until tomorrow.
I cannot locate any information on 'Collectors Art Limited' closed in 1988.
I hope that this helps in some small way and I will be sure to include any other information I might get from phone calls I have put out there.
