My mother in law passed away recently and left me her mother's Gorham silver. There are many peices in the set. The last appraised value we have is from 1980, which was over $25,000. I am not sure if these numbers are right. I am having trouble finding out what some of these peices are worth. Right now I am looking at a Silver Water Pitcher from 1959. It says 4 3/8 pint on the bottom. It has been kept wrapped and isn't tarnished. Can you tell me the value?
Hi Sir or MadamI can help you with this question. What else does the pitcher say on the bottom? Thanks!
On the bottom of the pitcher the numbers 1031/3. Also says "hand chased". Made in 1959. Also has set of 12 silver water goblets. (The appraisers paper says for pitcher #1031 and for goblets #1128)
Hope this helps.
Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX the additional information. The bottom of the pitcher doesn't say Gorham? Or Gorham Silver Co? What about the goblets? Thanks!
The entire bottom:
(design from 20th century - appears to be stamped on)
1031 / 3
(Sign for 1950 with a 9 inside)
4 3/8 Pint
"J" off to one side
There is a design on the pitcher, but my husband has my camera currently...(Sorry!)
Gorham (in cursive)
These are a set of 12, also with same design.
(Also comes with a set of 12 underplates - stamped 1137)
Also in set is 22 inch Gorham sterling Oval tray #1147
few other peices as well...(so wish I could upwrap and take pictures for you but I'm afraid to unwrap more peices since they are so tightly wrapped and have been for 20+ years) the peices I've unwrapped are not tarnished and all seem to have the same design, which I cannot find on the Gorham website) Hope this helps.
HI Cathy,Does the pitcher look like this one?
Yes, is there a design on the side? (Geez, why didn't I think it look it up with google?) It is a simple rope-like design in a square pattern
That's the one! The pattern is called Strasbourg. If it is in perfect condition, your Gorham sterling pitcher has a current retail (replacement) value of approximately $900. The goblets, if they are in perfect condition, have a current retail (replacement) value of approximately $4,300. The underplates have a current retail (replacement) value of $1,140. The tray has a current retail (replacement) value of approximately $3,800.I hope this answer has been helpful to you.
