I will have to get the serial number but as this was a gift sometime ago I will have to contact the person who gave it to me to see if they have the serial number.

When you entered the password ***** correctly wrong multiple times did it prompt you to reset to factory settings? You may have to enter the password ***** in a row about 5 times.

No never - it just kept saying incorrect password ***** gave me a hint for the password. I thought it must have been case sensitive but have been told it is not as I knew I was using the correct code.

Try the following passcode###-##-####on your kindle and see if that will then reset the device.
