Is this a kindle fire? If so, it is very easy to clear everything out (wipe it).
Go into the menu (swipe down from top of page), go into tools/settings,
under Device, choose the Restore Factory Defaults settings. This erases all memory and content, and it is like brand new. Then you can pass it on and he will need to get it onto your home wifi network and register it to his own amazon account.
